Last week I ended up with a hoarse voice which triggered my asthma giving me the usual tight chest. GP seemed to think it was an upper respiratory tract infection caused by a virus. This is probably the case as my voice has now returned to normal. But after a 5 day course of 40 mg Prednisone my chests still tight and waking me from my sleep which is worrying me. I’ve never taken oral steroids before so not sure if this is an unusual occurrence for them not to work after 5 days or could something else be going on here? I will obviously be returning to my GP but just wondering if others have had a similar experience? Any advice would be most great fully received thank you.

It isn’t uncommon for me to require more than one dose of antibiotics and or steroids. Definitely go back to gp to discuss possibly needing another course.
It's not unusual for a viral illness to create the conditions for a bacterial infection. So even though you've had Prednisolone, your GP will consider if you need an extension course of Pred and maybe antibiotics, if they think things have progressed to a bacterial chest infection.
