I dunno... Trigger warning maybe? Boo-boos.
I woke a little focused today and I've been able to get some things done that bother me.
Really high heat and humidity, but even so, my pain is lower than usual.
I was working in my bedroom when I suddenly heard high-pitched screaming outside my kitchen window. Ran and looked out: there's a huge calico cat at the edge of my driveway hunched over a teeny, dark, shrieking blob.
"Get out of there you S.O.*!!!" There's a crazy me banging on the window frame.
I ran outside to the back. Ya... funny huh. No cane, nada. Me, running. Ha.
Got there and screamed at that creature. The so-and-so took one look at me and high-tailed it outta there. I tried to look along the edge of the lawn... there. Something dark and tiny, crawling to get away from me. It disappeared in the high, wet grass.
My mind was racing. I don't know how badly the little guy was hurt. Would I have to take it to a wildlife rescuer?
I tracked it into the grass. Just a little ways away from me. Picked it up, cupped it in my palm. It wasn't even struggling. A soaking wet, dark reddish brown something. No, no tail. Not a squirrel then. Less than four inches long. Teeny wet ears glued to its head. I lifted them. Pointy elfin ears. A baby bunny!
I couldn't see any blood. No visible wounds. Tried to warm him a few seconds.
Tears pouring down my face, I reached as far as I could and parted the wet grass. Set him down and pushed up the grass to cover him.
"Find your Mommy sweetheart... find your mommy."
Inside now. Thinking on my decision. If the little guy was in the driveway -- he was -- the da*n cat had him in his mouth. I know cat scratches and bites can be dangerous, even small wounds.
I dunno. I want to have made the best choice... the perfect choice. Still crying. That feline will back. He knows there's a nest.
